A tower inspection tells you what a desk review can't: the real condition of the structure, the connections, the feedlines and the safety systems - verified by a certified climber who has eyes and hands on every level. Broadband Tower Services has been climbing and inspecting self-support, guyed and monopole towers across Ontario since 1996.
What we inspect
A full climbing inspection covers the structure and everything mounted on it:
- Structural members and connections - legs, bracing, welds, and splice bolts, checked for corrosion, deformation, missing or backed-off hardware.
- Plumb and twist - verticality and rotation measured against the tower's tolerances.
- Foundation and anchors - base condition, grout, and (on guyed towers) guy anchors, guy tension and the condition of the guy wires and grips.
- Grounding and bonding - ground bars, down-conductors and coax bonding, a frequent fail point on acceptance.
- Antennas, mounts and feedlines - mount integrity, azimuth/downtilt, cable hangers, bend radius and weatherproofing.
- Tower lighting and beacons - obstruction lighting condition and compliance.
- Climbing safety systems - safety-climb cable, rest platforms and fall-arrest anchor points.
The deliverable
You get a written report with date-stamped photographs, a condition rating, and a prioritized punch list - the items that need attention now, the items to watch, and the items that are fine. When the job calls for it, we pair the climb with a P.Eng-stamped structural assessment (per CSA S37 in Ontario) so loading changes and findings stand up to review. And because we climb our own jobs, the same crew that inspects can come back and fix what they found.
When to inspect
- On a regular maintenance cycle - periodic inspection is standard practice for keeping a tower in service safely.
- After a major storm, ice load or lightning event.
- Before adding load - new antennas, dishes or a co-locator - so you know the structure can carry it.
- Before a purchase or lease - an independent condition report before you take on a structure.
FAQ Common questions
Good to know
How often should a tower be inspected?
Industry practice is a periodic inspection on a regular cycle, plus an inspection after any major storm, ice load or lightning event, and before any change in loading. We can set up a maintenance schedule so it never gets missed.
Do you provide engineer-stamped reports?
Yes. We pair the climbing inspection with a P.Eng-stamped structural assessment per CSA S37 when you need documentation that stands up to review - for loading changes, co-locations or compliance.
Can you fix the problems you find?
Yes - we climb our own jobs, so the same certified crew that inspects can return to carry out repairs, reinforcement, grounding fixes or hardware replacement.
What kinds of towers do you inspect?
Self-support (lattice), guyed and monopole towers, from communications and broadcast structures to utility and private sites across Ontario.
